Scores Enjoy Tractor Show
On October 3rd and 4th, scores of folks descended on the Wessels Farm to examine vintage tractors, stationary engines and fascinating tools on display. The Wessels event is one of over 225 antique tractor in the US. At each show, seemingly sane men and women bring out tractors that they have spent untold hours and sometimes hundreds of thousands of dollars restoring. In this new video podcast, we ask, What about tractor shows drives men to the brink of madness? You'll find this and many other video podcasts on our Media Resources Page. Admission for the show will be $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, $3 for students with pre-schoolers getting in free.

Are We Headed Toward Another Great Depression?
tough economic times over the last year have caused some to wonder if we are headed toward another Great Depression like the world experienced in the 1930s. Those were especially hard times for rural America. In the "Farming in the 30s" section of this web site, you can explore how the Depression happened, how it affected everyday people across the world and how it changed history. For instance, there have been remarkably similar stock market crashes to the one that occurred in October 1929, but so far they have not resulted in a prolonged Depression. Be sure to click on the "Then & Now" link on this page to see how those market crashes compared. For students and those interested in history and current events, the "Farming in the 30s" section can bring those times back to life and inform a discussion based on the questions, "Could there be another Great Depression and would we survive it?"

Recognized!
This Wessels Living History Farm web site was recognized as one of the "one of the best online resources for education in the humanities" by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). In 2007, a panel of reviewers voted to include this site on EDSITEment, a gateway to the highest quality humanities-related educational content on the Internet. We have more about this honor here. This recognition prompted the Omaha World Herald to say we are "A Virtual Must-See." In addition, we continue to receive messages from folks across the country who are using the content and learner resources we offer. We've got excerpts from some of these e-mails here. It's heartening to know that the material we're working hard to provide is being used and appreciated by almost 800,000 of you in 2005. Thanks!
